$680

October 11th, 2008 at 09:46 pm

Well, I haven't written in a few days because I have been avoiding thinking about money; we've been hemorraging money. We've had more "surprises" that I love so much (sarcastic) to the tune of about $680 and that's just this pay period!

Anyway, on the positive side, I returned some things to Target today and left without buying anything else. I was walking down the aisle considering a purchase and thought of y'all's blogs and how some of you have written about avoiding temptation and it gave me strength! Smile I didn't need anything, but I do need to use what money I do have wisely.

Have y'all seen the recent Dr. Phil and Oprah episodes on the current economic crisis and what it means to you? They both went through a list of things to do NOW and they both included getting out of credit card debt and living within your means. Those thoughts also ran through my head and helped give me strength. So, yeah, I exercised constraint and feel good about that.

Woohoo for you! It is hard, but before you know it you won't even consider buying stuff not on your list.

I've never had ongoing credit card debt, but even so, these days, aside from paying my mortgage and utilities, the ONLY things I spend money on are 1. gas to get to work and 2. food.

That's it. I don't know how long i can keep that up, but i sure would like to.

I resisted a dress at Target last Sunday. I bought pants for my son; he is hard to fit, so I bought one pair on clearance for $6.48. They fit and were a good price, so I went back on Friday and surprising found another two pairs. Not reduced further, but a good price. AND I resisted buying anything else but a loaf of bread!

And your $680 was awfully close to the $688.00 car repair bill I needed to pay last month to pass the Vehicle Emissions Test in my state. This month should hopefully be quieter.

Great job! Target was always my downfall too. It took a while to get used to not buying things. Before I knew it, I just didn't want to buy anything at all! Now I'll give in to the urge to go to Target, but 9 times out of 10 I wont even buy anything. I'm sure before too long I'll get sick of even going there at all. It's progress for me. Last trip there I bought deoderant and cough drops. Exciting purchase there...
