No Raise or Bonus This Year

August 3rd, 2009 at 02:32 pm

I just found out that my husband's company will not be giving any raises or bonuses this year. We were wondering if we'd get a bonus. We definitely didn't expect to get the $5k that we've gotten in the past, but had hoped for a little something. We certainly didn't expect to hear that no one will get a raise. Oh well. I guess that just means we need to create our own raise by refiguring our budget.

I know that the last posts I have put up are all rather depressing, but I'm feeling optimistic again with the changes that are starting to take place...namely removing my husband from the checking account and feeling like this might actually work. Perhaps we are actually at the end of all the surprises, just in time for our one year financial anniversary (August 8th). I'll keep y'all updated on the new budget!

It is the same for our company. They did not feel like it was right to give bonus when all of our customers are hurting with the economy. This is also to protect the company with furthure savings untill the economy looks up.

We just have to be grateful that we have jobs.

I was fortunate to get a raise this year ($80 take home a month), but other costs skyrocketed (escrow, water rates) which has eaten up the raise and then some! Trying to be a little more diligent with my frugality, though its disappointing that I can't put that raise toward debt.

No raise here either. I/we usually get one in July. I wasn't expecting one either, to be honest. We started every other Friday unpaid furloughs in June. I can hardly wait to see what my year end bonus will be. December of 2008's was a bit of a disappointment as it was.

phemonemal woman - I agree. My husband and I have talked many times about how grateful we are for his job. They have made layoffs this year and we've been blessed to still have a job.

I've had one small raise in the past three years, which was more than offset by two changes in the healthcare offered. I'm taking home much less than I did three years ago. Husband and I have both been hit with furloughs--five unpaid days for me, ten unpaid days for him. Raises and bonuses are dim memories; like PW, just grateful to still have jobs--I've managed to keep mine through 3 rounds of layoffs, while husband has survived one round of layoffs.
